Hatchet golfers brave low temps to start season

For the Tomahawk Leader

MOSINEE – Following several cancellations due to weather, and despite some chilly temperatures, the Tomahawk Hatchet golf team participated in three meets last week.

Mosinee

The Tomahawk golfers traveled to Mosinee on Tuesday, April 25 to participate in a Great Northern Conference (GNC) meet.

Tomahawk ultimately finished in seventh place out of seven teams.

Coach Garth Gerstenberger noted that Owen Dickrell finished in sixth place individually, turning in a “solid” performance that included a 30-foot breaking putt for birdie on hole three.

“As a team, we were 59 shots better than last year at the same meet,” Gerstenberger stated. “We are showing great improvement, but still need a lot of work on our short game.”

Final individual scores for Tomahawk were Dickrell, 86; Austin Lamer, 100; Sawyer Hanna, 102; Carson Childers, 106; and Drew Albert, 115.

Gerstenberger called Tomahawk’s showing in Barron the team’s “best match in the last four years.”

“I was really happy with the way we hit the ball today,” Gerstenberger said after the meet. “The temperament of our guys was outstanding today. They all bounce back from poor shots really well.”

Gerstenberger noted that Lamer had his first competitive score in the 80s. Dickrell led the team with eight pars, and Sawyer Hanna knocked in a birdie.
