Carl A. Westbrook

Carl A. Westbrook, 94, a lifelong resident of Tomahawk, passed away on April 23, 2023 at Country Terrace Assisted Living.

Carl was born Nov. 12, 1928, to Gordon and Clara (Hoffman) Westbrook at the family farm a few miles from Heafford Junction (north of Tomahawk). He worked on the farm for many years prior to employment at Solar Queen, Tomahawk, as a machinist. When Solar Queen closed, he obtained and held a position as a machinist at Prentice Hydraulics (Omark Industries), Prentice, until he retired.
Among his many interests, Carl enjoyed hunting not only on his own property, but also “out west” in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. Many hunting trips took place with friends and family members over the years. Carl also enjoyed traveling to the Southwest and other areas of the country.

Every year, Carl put in a large vegetable garden with his specialties being onions, potatoes, and sweet corn. Gladiolus were the only flower that he ever grew, and they were beauties. Carl had a special place in his heart for bluebirds and hummingbirds. Bluebird houses were on many fence posts, and he knew just when the eggs hatched in each house.

Carl was the ultimate storyteller, and had a wonderful sense of humor. There was always someone stopping by his house to visit. Friends, neighbors, and family came from near and far to talk about the weather, old tractors, cars, machinery, and hunting, to name a few topics.

Carl was preceded in death by his siblings, Imogene Norlander, Gordon Westbrook, Howard Westbrook, Jean Zacharias, Irene Westbrook, Mary Dumpprope, and Betty Hulce, and his niece, Brenda Wanless.
Carl is survived by his nephew, Mark Hulce (June), and nieces, Kathleen D’Angelo (Tony), Sharon Wiedenfeld (Jay), Sally Johnson, and Linda Westbrook, and great nephews, Adam (Jystyna) Hall. He is further survived by many nephews, nieces, great nephews/nieces, and great-great nephews/nieces. Carl’s special friends and neighbors include the Younker family, Peterson family, Ron Evans and family, Don Allen and family, and many more.

Graveside Services for Carl Westbrook will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery on Friday, April 28, 2023.

The family would like to especially thank all of the Hospice staff and Country Terrace staff who took such special care of Carl over the last two and a half years.
