For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – Four Tomahawk High School (THS) students are headed to this summer’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference.

Marie Weizenicker, Joseph Jones, Emma Hoff and Siennah Calkins competed at the Regional level in February, where they punched their tickets to the State competition in Wisconsin Dells. By receiving top gold at State, they qualified for FCCLA Nationals, which will be held in Denver, Colo., from Sunday, July 2 through Thursday, July 6.

FCCLA Advisor Allison Ewart said Weizenicker and Jones promoted and publicized FCCLA this year by doing many community connections and coordinating a blood drive at the school, while Hoff and Calkins taught middle school students about humane societies and made homemade treats and braided toys for the animals.

At State, each group gave a ten-minute speech and provided judges with presentations about their projects.

The students are currently raising funds for their trip to Nationals. Those interested in contributing can contact Ewart at [email protected].
