Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: April 3, 2023

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, April 3:

Deputies were kept quite busy through the course of the late-season winter storm over the weekend. Between Friday evening March 31 and mid-day Saturday, April 1, deputies responded to 47 weather-related calls for service, including reports of downed power lines, roads being impassable due to snowfall, numerous vehicles in the ditch and two weather-related motor vehicle crashes. No injuries were reported as a result of the weather-related activity.

A Merrill woman, 65, avoided injury following a one-vehicle crash on Friday morning, March 31. Deputies responded to the crash just before 7 a.m. near the intersection of County Rd. Z and Hilly Rd. in the Town of Scott. A preliminary investigation indicated the vehicle the woman was driving lost control after meeting a patch of ice, entered the ditch and rolled over.

A Tomahawk man, 19, avoided injury following a one-vehicle crash on Wednesday evening, March 29. Deputies responded to the crash just before 5 p.m. near the intersection of County Rd. D and Cloverbelt Rd., in the Town of King. A preliminary investigation indicated the vehicle the man was driving was eastbound on County Rd. D when it lost control after swerving to miss a deer, traveled through the ditch and struck a power pole.

A Merrill man, 18, was taken into custody following a traffic stop on the evening of Sunday, March 26, in the Town of Pine River. A deputy on patrol stopped the vehicle the man was operating upon observing it traveling 72 MPH in a MPH mph speed zone near the intersection of County Rd. W and Alpine Ave. During contact with the man, the investigating deputy noted signs indicative of impairment and the odor of intoxicants. A driver’s license check revealed the man’s operating privileges had been suspended and open intoxicants were located inside the vehicle. As a result, the man was taken into custody on a 2nd offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) and cited for operating after suspension and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.

Four motorists reported striking deer this past week in Lincoln County, up from three the week before. One motorist reported striking a bear this past week. The vehicle involved sustained moderate front-end damage. The bear had left the scene before the arrival of the responding deputy.
