Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Feb. 20, 2023

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Feb. 20:

A Merrill man, 61, was taken into custody Saturday evening, Feb. 19, following a traffic stop in the Town of Corning.  A deputy on patrol on State Hwy. 64/107 stopped the vehicle the man was operating near the intersection with Corning Rd. after observing the vehicle traveling 87 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone.  Upon speaking with the man, the deputy noted signs indicative of impairment, including red-glassy eyes and the odor of intoxicating beverages. Following roadside field sobriety testing, the man was taken into custody and cited for 1st offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and later released to a responsible party.

A Tomahawk woman, 29, was taken into custody Friday morning, Feb. 17, following a traffic stop in the Town of Birch.  A deputy on patrol on U.S. Hwy. 51 stopped the vehicle the woman was operating near the intersection with County Rd. K after finding Wisconsin DOT records indicated the owner of the vehicle had a revoked driving status. Upon speaking with the woman, the deputy noted the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Following a search of the vehicle, the woman will face charges of possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Two motorists reported striking deer in Lincoln County this past week, down from seven the week prior.
