Hockey: Tomahawk wins three heading into Regionals

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet hockey team won three games ahead of its Regional game this week.

Waupaca

The Hatchets hosted Waupaca at the SARA Park Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 7 and came away with a 4-2 win.

After the game, Coach Bembinster said he and the coaching staff were proud of the team.

“We did a nice job of executing a lot of small details that we talk about,” Bembinster stated. “Very complete game tonight.”

WSFLG Blizzard

On Thursday, Feb. 9, the WSFLG Blizzard came to Tomahawk, and the Hatchets ultimately earned a resounding 12-1 victory.

Bembinster said that the Tomahawk skaters started off the game “a little slow,” but really picked up in the second and third periods.

He noted that the team once again executed the details discussed in practice, adding that the squad would be ready for its weekend conference tournament in Medford.

Medford GNC tournament

Tomahawk took part in a Great Northern Conference (GNC) tournament in Medford on Saturday, Feb. 11, where the team came away with a 6-3 win over Northland Pines.

Bembinster noted that although his squad was missing some key players due to injury and illness, the team “rallied around each other and played a very solid game.”

Along with the win, the Hatchets also had three players who received All-Conference honors. Zack Friske earned 2nd team All-Conference, while Austin Lamer and Logan Seymour were Honorable Mention selections.

“Congratulations to those players and the team for finishing the regular season strong,” Bembinster said.
