TOMAHAWK – The City of Tomahawk Common Council this week approved a local group’s plan to utilize a city-owned property to build a museum focused on Tomahawk’s boating history.

Tomahawk Boat Museum Inc., a recently-established nonprofit organization, is spearheading efforts to construct a museum that will highlight the histories of the Tomahawk Boat Manufacturing Company and the Kwahamot Water Ski Club.

The organization is planning to build the 68’ by 44’ museum next to the Kwahamot storage building on the north side of Deer Park Rd.

During its meeting at City Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 7, the council gave the official go-ahead to the group to utilize the property.

Bill Sparr, a member of Tomahawk Boat Museum Inc., was on hand at the council’s meeting this week. He said the organization will now focus on raising funds to construct the museum.

The group is hoping to start construction with a licensed builder this spring.
