Oneida County ADRC seeking volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers

For the Tomahawk Leader

ONEIDA COUNTY – The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Oneida County is encouraging adults of all ages to consider volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound older individuals in the area.

Volunteer drivers make deliveries within the greater Rhinelander area – Cassian, Lake Tomahawk, Minocqua, Nokomis, Rhinelander, Sugar Camp, Three Lakes and Woodruff.

“Besides delivering a hot nutritious meal, volunteers are also providing an important safety check for individuals often living alone with no other personal contact,” ADRC stated.

ADRC said volunteers receive reimbursement for mileage on the meal route at the current rate of $0.655 per mile, as well as the “priceless appreciation from the diners they deliver to.”

“Some volunteers enjoy working with a spouse or friend, making the route more efficient and enjoyable,” ADRC noted.

Meals on Wheels is operated by the ADRC of Oneida County, 100 W Keenan St., Rhinelander.
