Elementary, middle school students take part in spelling bees

TOMAHAWK – Tomahawk Elementary and Middle School students took part in spelling bees on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The bees were held as part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Students qualified for the school bees by placing first, second and third in their classroom bees. There were 18 qualifying students for the middle school bee, and 24 elementary school spellers.

“All students showed amazing sportsmanship and super spelling abilities,” said Angela McPherson, School Bee Coordinator and Reading Specialist with the School District of Tomahawk.

In the elementary school, Landyn Schultz took first place, while Greyson Loren finished in second and Jacee Gauerke placed third.

Ryan Montag emerged as the champion in the middle school, followed by Braxton Stromberg in second place and Bodie Olsen in third.

The six top finishers will travel to Northland Pines on Tuesday, Feb. 7 to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee.
