Wrestling: Tomahawk takes fourth place in Markesan tournament

For the Tomahawk Leader

MARKSEAN – The Tomahawk Hatchet varsity wrestling team traveled to the Bark Memorial Invitational Tournament in Markesan on Saturday, Jan. 21.

It proved to be a good day of wrestling for Tomahawk, with five athletes coming home with top-three finishes.

Junior Presly Gutbrod had great success, securing a first-place finish with a pin at the 113-lb. weight class.

Freshman Brayden Ristau and sophomore Jack Derleth each wrestled their way to second place on the day.

As for the senior Hatchets, Addison Piessig and Hudson Mattke secured third-place finishes.

The Hatchets had a good team showing, taking fourth place overall out of nine teams, and they looked to continue their success as they finished out the month of January competing in Rhinelander and Pittsville.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, Tomahawk is scheduled to host a GNC Meet that gets underway at 10 a.m.
