Tomahawk pucksters win three, lose one

For the Tomahawk Leader

EAGLE RIVER – The Tomahawk Hatchet hockey team earned three wins and dropped one game in recent action.

Northland Pines

The Hatchets kicked off last week on the road, traveling to Eagle River to take on Northland Pines on Monday, Jan. 23.

The Hatchets ultimately came away with an 8-4 conference win.

After the game, coach Chris Bembinster noted that the team has “some things to clean up in our third periods lately.”

“The players are finding ways to play through the struggles and come away victorious,” Bembinster said. “We have a big week, one more tomorrow that is important conference game. This group will be ready to go.”

Waupaca

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, Tomahawk hosted Waupaca at the SARA Park Arena and earned a 7-4 win.

“We definitely have some things to clean up, as far as penalties go,” Bembinster said after the game. “With that being said, this group keeps finding ways to stay ahead of our opponents. As the season gets closer to the end, we need to concentrate on getting better every day.”

Ashland

Ashland came to the Tomahawk on Thursday, Jan. 26 and defeated the Hatchets by a score of 4-1.

“We did not have the night we were hoping for,” Bembinster said after the game. “We will have to go over this one in a physical and mental capacity to make (sure) key adjustments are made. This will be used as another page in this year’s book to make us stronger for the playoffs.”

Shawano

The Hatchets hosted Shawano at the SARA Park Arena on Friday, Jan. 27 and found their way back into the win column with a 7-3 victory.

Bembinster said the squad did a nice job adjusting to several players being out due to injuries or illness.

“The goalie from Shawano played a very good game for them tonight,” Bembinster stated after the game, adding that the Hatchets would have two days of rest before hitting a three-game stretch this week.
