Joel R. Schlereth, age 75, of Tomahawk, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Jan. 16, 2023. Joel was born in Detroit, Mich., on March 4, 1947, to the late Robert and Maud (King) Schlereth. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen (Scullion) Schlereth.

Joel was a 1965 graduate of Farmington High School in Michigan. After high school, he attended Michigan State University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Following college, Joel traveled extensively for his occupation throughout the States and later took a hiatus from work to travel the country for adventure and pleasure. Joel was a jack-of-all trades who loved sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge with his children. He enjoyed spending time outdoors working on his lawn, repairing vehicles, renovating his home, and tending to all things that needed to be done. Many family memories were made camping and hiking along with road trips to numerous national parks and interesting places. Joel captured many of life’s moments creating videos and photographs that will constantly be a treasure to his family for years to come. A true dog lover, he held a special place in his heart for Patch, Fela, Willys, Pan, and Gus. Joel was always willing to give his time and talents to those in need. He had a willing ear and open heart for all.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Schereth, of Tomahawk; his sons, Robert (Alejandra) Schlereth, of Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Stephen Schlereth, of Tomahawk; and his daughter, Alene (Thom) Schlereth, of Menomonie, Wis. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Liam, Maggie, Maya, and Miles. Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Maud; and his brother, Mark.

In accordance with Joel’s wishes, no formal services will be held. He was a true and devoted tither who gave to many charities. If you would like to donate in his name to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, SPCA, or any charity of your choice, that would warm his heart. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory, Tomahawk, is assisting the family. You may view Joel’s obituary and leave online condolences at www.generationsfuneral.com.
