Nicolet College’s Learning in Retirement program set to launch new season of offerings

For the Tomahawk Leader

RHINELANDER – Nicolet College’s Learning in Retirement program will feature another fun-filled, learning-inspired collection of offerings for Winter/Spring 2023 that will include many new classes, along with fresh takes on traditional favorites.

“Learning in Retirement has been engaging the minds of older, active adults for 25 years,” said Cate Hallisy, Learning in Retirement President. “We’re proud to present a broad spectrum of classes and a significant range of topics that will meet the interests of all our members. We provide experiences that encourage both intellectual and social interaction. Join us, meet your neighbors and find a place where curiosity never retires.”

Winter/Spring classes start Friday, Jan. 6 with What We’re Reading Now, an open discussion about interesting non-fiction.

Other upcoming offerings include a travelogue about Guatemala, learning about black bears in the popular Cedric Vig Nature Series, figuring out how to better use your smart phone, increasing your resilience in older adulthood, touring the Nicolet Art Gallery and automotive lab and more.

“Retirement is a fascinating time of life,” said Jane Banning, chair of the Learning in Retirement Curriculum Committee. “Want to learn to play the ukulele? How about see the Oneida County Courthouse up close? Have lunch at the Nicolet College’s famous Top of the Hill culinary dining room or meet with friends to snowshoe or to have a meal out? All of that and more is available through Learning in Retirement at Nicolet College.”

Currently, about 200 members from throughout the Northwoods belong to Learning in Retirement, Nicolet said. Annual membership is $45.00 and runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following year. Members can join at any time during the year and take as many or as few classes as they desire.
