For the Tomahawk Leader
RHINELANDER – A Clintonville man who area law enforcement say led them on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle made an initial appearance in Oneida County Court on Friday, Dec. 16.
Cody J. Huebner, 32, faces seven felony and six misdemeanor charges following his arrest Wednesday, Dec. 14.
It was initially reported Huebner lives in Shawano.
Huebner reportedly first fled from Minocqua Police in a grocery store parking lot Dec. 14 after police received information about a suspicious vehicle in the area. Huebner allegedly led law enforcement on a high-speed chase southbound on US-51 before crashing his vehicle in the Hazelhurst area. He then ran on foot into the woods.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Huebner pointed a handgun in the direction of one of the officers and said he is “not going back to jail.” Huebner allegedly stole an unlocked vehicle with the keys inside parked in a driveway. On his way out of the neighborhood, Huebner reportedly struck one of the deputies, causing non-life threatening injuries.
In a statement, Oneida County Sheriff’s Captain Terri Hook said Huebner led law enforcement on an eight-mile chase, with speeds in excess of 80 MPH on ice-covered roads. When he reached Little Bearskin Lake, Huebner allegedly exited the vehicle and fled into the woods on foot.
Huebner was arrested several hours later in the Town of Cassian.
Among the charges Huebner faces are fleeing an officer, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, intentionally pointing a firearm at law enforcement, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of narcotic drugs.
Judge Michael H. Bloom set a $100,000.00 cash bond for Huebner on Friday, Dec. 16.
