Hockey: Tomahawk takes down Pacelli, Medford

For the Tomahawk Leader

STEVENS POINT – The Tomahawk Hatchet hockey team came away with two wins last week.

Pacelli

The Hatchet pucksters earned their second win of the season on the road in Stevens Point against Pacelli on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

The final score was 6-2.

Coach Chris Bembinster said the team “did a very nice job of (keeping) the momentum up from our last game.”

“Our preparation and execution are getting better with every period of hockey,” Bembinster stated. “It really showed, as we outshot them tonight 70-24, and that was from some great passing plays. Great effort from the team.”

Medford

Tomahawk hosted Medford on Thursday, Dec. 8 and ultimately defeated the Red Raiders by a score of 12-2.

“We talk about getting better every shift, every period and every game,” Bembinster said after the matchup. “Tonight was a great example of that.”

Bembinster noted that although the Hatchets let up a little after a good start, the squad built a great head of steam moving through the 2nd and 3rd periods.

“(The) best part of this one is we had 13 of our 17 skaters on the score sheet tonight,” he added.

Upcoming games

This week will see the Hatchet skaters hit the road on back-to-back days.

On Thursday, Dec. 15, Tomahawk will visit Mosinee.

The Hatchets are slated to travel to Merrill on Friday, Dec. 16.

Both games get underway at 7 p.m.
