LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) earlier this month announced the release of a convicted sex offender.

Schug

A Friday, Dec. 2 post on the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page said Scott A. Schug would be released and residing in Lincoln County as of Wednesday, Dec. 7. Schug will be on extended supervision on GPS and is a lifetime registrant with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program.

Schug was previously convicted of two counts of 2nd degree sexual assault of a child and sentenced to prison, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“This notification is not intended to increase fear,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “Rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public. Sex offenders have always lived in our communities, but it was not until the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the public.”

The Sheriff’s Office said Schug was not wanted by law enforcement at the time of the Facebook post.

The Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry can be found online at www.appsdoc.wi.gov/public.

The Sheriff’s Office said it “cannot control the release or placement of a sex offender.”

“If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the DOC at 715-536-5633,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.
