Wyland first began donating blood in 1970. What started as an effort to help a friend’s mother who shared his O+ blood type became a 50-plus-year journey of giving the gift of life to those in need.

In 2010, Wyland was honored by ARC for having donated 15 gallons of blood over the years.

After Wyland hit the 25-gallon mark this year, ARC recognized him with a pin commemorating his efforts.

“It’s our honor to award you this milestone pin,” ARC stated. “Your 200 lifetime donations have made a true difference in the lives of others. We’re proud to celebrate this achievement with you.”

Wyland dedicated his accomplishment to his wife, Lois Wyland, who passed away in August. She encouraged him to continue donating blood after his 15th gallon, Wyland said.
