THS students visit Tomahawk Historical Society ahead of essay writing contest

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – Tomahawk High School students recently had the opportunity to learn about Tomahawk’s past ahead of an upcoming essay writing contest on the subject.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, students in Mr. Hernandez’s U.S. History and AP U.S. History classes visited the Tomahawk Historical Society museum, where they viewed various exhibits, including lumber/farming, military, daily life, Native Americans and education.

Along with providing educational value, the field trip also served as the kickoff of the first annual History of Tomahawk Writing Contest.

Over the course of the next month, students will select a topic related to the history of Tomahawk and tell that story through writing. Winners will be selected before winter vacation begins.

“Thank you to all the volunteers at the Tomahawk Historical Society for volunteering their time to showcase the history of our community to our students,” Hernandez said.
