Vera D. Meyer

Vera D. Meyer was born April 6, 1930 in Chicago to Berger and Margaret (Kranz) Winquist. She was baptized in May 1930 at the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago, Ill. On Easter Sunday 1943, Vera was confirmed in the Lutheran Christian Faith at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was first married to Thaddeus Kopier and later was married to William Meyer on Sept. 3, 1966 in Waukegan, Ill. He passed away in 1995.

Vera owned and operated a pet store in Waukegan from 1952 until 1979. In 1981, Vera and Bill retired to the Rhinelander area. Vera was an avid reader with her own special library. She also was devoted to sharing the message of the love of Jesus. For many years, she was a teacher for the mentally handicapped, weekly spending several hours teaching and guiding them in their faith in Jesus. Vera moved to the Tomahawk area in 1998. Her motivation for life was to share Jesus with everyone she met because she wanted to see them in heaven. She was a faithful member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Vera is survived by two daughters – Katherine Meyer, Rhinelander and Brenda Henderson, Kentucky, and a son – Gary Kopier, Burlington, Wis. She is further survived by 27 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Vera is preceded in death by her parents, her brother –  Berger, two sons –  Billy and Jim, and a daughter –  Margaret.

For the past five years, Vera dealt with Parkinson’s disease. Through prayer and her trust in Jesus, she remained in her home until she fell and broke her hip. For two weeks, she struggled with pain. Yet, she was still heard to exclaim: God is good. He is good. After 92 years of grace, the Lord sent his angels in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022 to her room at Tomahawk Health Services. Peacefully, the angels carried the soul of his child to her heavenly home.
