Volleyball: Hatchets sweep dual meets at Northland Pines

EAGLE RIVER – The Tomahawk Hatchet volleyball team swept dual meets held at Northland Pines High School in Eagle River on Saturday, Sept. 17 to move to 5-0 in the Great Northern Conference.

The Hatchet spikers won their first match, defeating Medford by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-18.

Next up was Northland Pines, and Tomahawk emerged with the win by scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-18.

Tomahawk’s last match was against Rhinelander, and the Hatchets completed the sweep, 25-12, 25-12 and 25-15.

“The team played very well and focused on Saturday,” said coach Keith Hanse. “They had a great day in all aspects of the game, serving, passing and hitting.”

Meghan Scholz led the way with 33 kills, six aces, and 11 blocks. Alyssa Zehner had 14 kills, four aces and 20 digs, Claire Albert had 11 kills, five aces and 21 digs, Sam Gebauer led with 25 digs, and Mackenzie Scholz had 11 kills and 59 assists.

The Hatchets are slated to travel to Mosinee on Tuesday, Sept. 20. On Thursday, Sept. 22, Tomahawk will host a quad at Hatchet Fieldhouse that gets underway at 5 p.m. Mosinee will come to town on Tuesday, Sept. 27, for a match that begins at 7 p.m.
