Joanne M (Carlson) Ostling

Joanne M (Carlson) Ostling passed away peacefully on July 15, 2022 of Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 87. Her family celebrates that she is now in heaven and has been reunited with her husband Bill and the many loved ones who have gone before. 

Joanne was born on Jan. 7, 1935 in Prentice, Wis., to Ernest and Gertrude (Hedman) Carlson. She graduated from Prentice High School in 1953. After which, Joanne attended secretarial school in Milwaukee. Joanne and William (Bill) married in 1956 and were married for almost 60 years before his passing in 2015. Together they enjoyed fishing, dancing, and spending time with family and friends.

Joanne worked as a telephone operator in Prentice while Bill was in boot camp after which he was stationed in Germany. Once he returned from the service, they added to their family a son, Wayne in 1959 and daughter Lynne in 1961. They lived in Prentice until Bill was transferred to Raleigh, N.C., in 1969, where they lived for five years before returning to Prentice. Joanne was a stay at home mom and then worked part time as her children grew up. She then worked full time at the State Bank of Phillips until her retirement in 1991. Joanne volunteered in many capacities for her church and other community organizations.

Joanne and Bill became snowbirds following their retirement, enjoying summers at Somo Lake in Tomahawk and winters in DeBary, Fla. They moved to Maplewood, Minn., to be closer to Lynne’s family in 2012. 

Joanne is survived by her son Wayne (Brenda) and daughter Lynne Jeffers (Tom), grandchildren, Brian, Trevor and Nick Ostling and Mia Carr (Andy), Logan Schultz and Jordyn Jeffers; great-grandchildren Austin, Matthew, Ryan, Grace, Layla, Jude and Donovan Carr; brother, Glenn (Lorene) Carlson and sister, Karen Reinstrom (Robert), several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service was held at First Lutheran Church in Prentice on Saturday, Aug. 20. Interment was at the Prentice Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials were requested to First Lutheran Church, 670 Main St., Prentice, Wis., 54556 or to Brantwood Coop Park Association (BCPA), 135529 Highland Drive Marathon, Wis., 54448.
