TOMAHAWK – Members of the Tomahawk and Nokomis fire departments took part in a helicopter landing zone safety discussion and training exercise on Monday, Aug. 15.

The training was provided by Life Link III, which has a total of 11 helicopter bases throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota, as well as a fixed wing aircraft. A helicopter based out of Rhinelander landed at the Tomahawk Fire Department for the exercise.

“Training like this is beneficial for new or senior members, as it stresses the importance of proper landing zone security, as well as the proper loading of a patient into the aircraft,” said Robert Caylor of the Tomahawk Fire Department.

Caylor explained that in an emergency situation, multiple resources come together in a collaborated effort to get the patient to definitive care in a timely manner.

“When time is of the essence, having a resource like this only a few minutes away in Rhinelander increases the chances of a positive outcome,” Caylor stated.

“We’re happy to be able to provide our public safety partners that and other training opportunities,” said Lucas Stoflet, Partner Engagement Manager with Life Link III.

Stoflet added that it is important to Life Link III to “partner together for our rural communities by bringing advanced care capabilities right to them when they need it most.”

“We must do what’s in the best interest of the patients we care for, always,” Stoflet stated.
