Dare to Dream: Milestone resident Joanne Kasmierski enjoys pontoon ride with grandson

TOMAHAWK – Joanne Kasmierski moved to our Milestone Senior Living facility in Tomahawk after fracturing her hip from a fall in March of 2021. She is not able to bear weight, and has to use a wheelchair for transportation.

As some people know, she is a “stubborn Pollock,” per her description of herself.

She raised five children as well as running Kass’s Lounge years ago with her husband. While being a bar/resort owner, they had a pontoon boat club, calling it the “Dingy Club.” Joanne tends to go down memory lane telling her peers and staff stories from the past.

On Monday, Aug. 1, Milestone had a picnic in Veterans Memorial Park in Tomahawk. Pontoon boat rides were offered following lunch by her grandson, Keaton.

We already mentioned how stubborn she says she is; imagine the surprise when her grandson talked her into letting them load her on the pontoon for a ride in her wheelchair. She was all smiles, as you can tell by the thumbs up.

Joanne was so happy to go on a ride with him, saying, “Who knows how much time we have. This could have been my last boat ride.”

Leave it to grandkids to talk a grandma into going for a ride, especially since it was not a sunny day.

What a dream come true.
