Tomahawk Claybusters wrap up season, hold annual awards night

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The last weekend in June, the Tomahawk Claybusters finished up their season at the Wisconsin SCTP State Shoot near Wisconsin Rapids.

Athletes participated in the Singles shoot, which consists of shooting four rounds of 25 clays. The top Tomahawk shooters in the Singles category were Zach Jonesi (91), Hudson Mattke (89), Tyler Strassman (89), Nathan Graeber (88) and Trey Morrison (88).

Some also tried their hand at the Doubles shoot, in which two clays are ejected at once, and athletes attempt to shoot them one right after the other. The top Doubles shooters were Tyler Strassman (73), Hudson Mattke (70), Hayden Greil (62) and Ashton Greil (51).

The Handicap shoot requires the shooter to shoot from a greater distance. Tyler Strassman shot an 85 in the Handicap event.

On July 14, the Claybusters had their annual Awards Night at the Somo Fish & Game Club. Shooters are placed into levels based on their grade/experience. Awards were given for top season average scores.

Intermediate Entry top three: Cole Peterson, 16.55; Oliver Childers, 16.00; Colin Black, 15.22.

Intermediate Advanced: Mason Jaecks, 18.55; Tyler Strassman, 17.88; Hayden Greil, 17.11.

Junior Varsity: Blake Younker, 20.22; Zach Germano, 19.66; Zach Jonesi, 17.44.

Varsity: Nathan Graeber, 21.55; Hudson Mattke, 21.11; Lander Schade, 20.66.

There was a tie between Abby Jaecks and Zach Jonesi for being the most improved shooter from the first to second half of the season (+23). The tie breaker went to Zach Jonesi via reverse run.

Khianna Vacho earned the title Top Gun Ladies for her season average of 20.33. Nathan Graeber earned Top Gun Boys with 21.55.

In addition to these accomplishments, three shooters shot perfect rounds (25 out of 25) during competition: Hudson Mattke, Nathan Graeber and Marcus Patterson.
