Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: July 31, 2022
As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Sunday, July 31:
On 07-26-2022 a deputy was assigned to investigate a damage to property complaint. It was reported to the Sheriff’s Office that a Merrill man, 39, intentionally dug up a telephone box that was on his property, which is located on Swede Rd. in the Town of Merrill. The box was owned by Frontier Phone Company and the damage disrupted phone services in the area. The report with a request for charges of criminal damage to property and theft will be sent to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.
On 07-26-2022 a deputy observed a speeding violation on Grand Ave. in the City of Merrill. Before attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver turned on to Prospect St. and attempted to hide in a random driveway. When the deputy made contact with the driver, he found the Merrill man, 25 to be under the influence of intoxicants. As a result, the driver was placed through a series of sobriety tests and ultimately arrested for OWI. The driver was later released to a responsible party.
On 07-27-2022 a deputy stopped a Tomahawk man, 59, for speeding in a UTV on Southgate Dr. in the City of Tomahawk. Once the driver was stopped, he was found to be under the influence of intoxicants. As a result the driver was placed through a series of sobriety tests and ultimately arrested for OWI. The driver was later released to a responsible party.
On 07-30-2022 a deputy on patrol observed a vehicle with no working tail lights S/B on USH 51 near STH 64 in the Town of Pine River. Upon stopping the vehicle and making contact with the occupants, the deputy was able to smell a strong odor of fresh marijuana. As a result, the vehicle was searched and suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located. The driver, a Wausau man, 31, and the passenger, a Wausau man, 32 were both arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
On 07-30-22 a K9 deputy stopped a vehicle with defective exhaust on CTH K in the Town of Merrill. During the investigation, the deputy’s K9 partner indicated a positive alert on the vehicle, which resulted in the vehicle being searched. During the search, drug paraphernalia was in the vehicle. The driver a Stevens Point man, 25, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, operating after revocation, misdemeanor, and felony bail jumping. He was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail. During this week period, there were three reported car-deer crashes.
