Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: July 3 and 11, 2022
As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Sunday, July 3:
On 06-27-2022 deputies were dispatched to an address on Grand Ave. in the Town of Bradley for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival it was learned that a woman, 51, from Illinois was arguing with her 52 year old ex-husband, 52, from Tomahawk, and her daughter, 18, also from Tomahawk. It was further reported to deputies that the elder female had been drinking and causing problems in the house. At one point she attempted to strike her ex-husband and hit a dog instead. As a result of the investigation, the Illinois woman was arrested for disorderly conduct and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
06-24-2022 a deputy on routine patrol and stopped a vehicle on E. Main St. in the City of Merrill for defective exhaust. During the stop it was discovered that the driver, a Merrill man, 23, had been consuming alcoholic beverages. When asked to step out of his car for SFSTs a smoking device commonly used for the consumption of illegal drugs fell on the ground. The driver was found to be under the legal limit allowed for driving, but a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of meth, dirty syringes and a digital scale, also with meth on it. Subsequently, the driver was arrested and brought to the Lincoln County Jail. There were two passengers in the car as well, a man, 38, and a man, 28, both from Merrill. Both parties were arrested on probation holds, and the 38-year-old will also be charged with possession of meth.
On 06-30-2022 deputies were dispatched to the area of CTH B near Nutzies Bar in the Town of Harrison for a reported UTV crash with injuries. It was further reported that one person was trapped under the UTV. Upon arrival, it was learned that one UTV was being operated by a man, 52, from Eldorado, Wis., and they were traveling E/B on the trail. A second UTV being operated by a man, 48, from Grayslake, Ill., was traveling W/B on the same trail. As the two passed each other on a curve, the UTVs came into contact with one another, causing them to crash. Several parties received various minor injuries as a result of the crash. The Illinois man was arrested for OWI on a UTV and causing injury.
On 06-30-2022 a deputy on routine patrol observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Somo Ave. and School Rd. in the City of Tomahawk. While following this vehicle, the deputy witnessed several traffic violations and stopped the vehicle as a result of those violations. When stopped, it was learned that the driver, a Tomahawk, man, 25, was under the influence of intoxicants. The driver was placed through a series of SFSTs and as a result of those tests, was arrested for a first offense of OWI and cited for open intoxicants. The driver was later released to a responsible party.
On 07-01-2022 a deputy was dispatched to the area of CTH T and STH 86 in the Town of Tomahawk for a reported motorcycle vs. deer crash with injuries. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with the driver of the motorcycle, Tomahawk man, 55, who stated he was N/B on CTH T when he struck the deer. After the collision, the driver laid the bike down and was thrown from the machine. The driver was claiming minor injuries but refused an ambulance. The driver reported he would go in for medical treatment on his own.
On 07-02-2022 a deputy on routine patrol stopped a vehicle on USH 51 near CTH S in the Town of Bradley for a speeding violation. When stopped, the driver, a Beaver Dam man, 57, was found to be under the influence of intoxicants. As a result, he was placed through a series of SFSTs, and as a result of those tests, he was placed under arrest for a first offense OWI. He was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail, as he had no one to call for a responsible party to pick him up.
On 07-02-2022 deputies were dispatched to the area of USH 51 and CTH Q in the Town of Scott for a report of a possible drunk driver. The report was that the suspect vehicle was swerving heavily. A short time later, a deputy located the suspect vehicle and stopped it based on the citizen complaint. The driver a Madison man, 41, was found to be impaired. As a result of this, he was placed through a series of SFSTs, and as a result of those tests, he was placed under arrest for 4th offense OWI. A preliminary test showed that he was almost 4.5 times the legal limit. He was later transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
On 07-02-2022 deputies were dispatched to the area of Cloverbelt Rd. and CTH H in the Town of Skanawan for a reported car crash with injuries. It was further reported that the vehicle had rolled over and that there was entrapment. Upon arrival, deputies found that all subjects had gotten out of the vehicle. One passenger was transported by Tomahawk Ambulance to Aspirus Sacred Heart Hospital. The driver, a Tomahawk man, 44, reported that he took the corner too fast, and as a result, he lost control of the car and crashed. The driver also admitted to drinking prior to the crash. The driver was placed through a series of SFSTs, and as a result of those tests, was arrested for a 3rd offense OWI and may possibly face charges of causing injury by drunk driving. The investigation into the crash continues.
On 07-02-2022 deputies were called to the Lincoln County Jail for a fight between inmates. Three female inmates, a Merrill woman, 28, a Schofield woman, 34, and a Wausau woman, 38, were involved in a fight, with the Merrill woman being the primary aggressor. This is a preliminary report and it is still under investigation. No injuries were reported and charges will be requested for battery by inmate.
On 07-02-2022 deputies were dispatched to the area of an address on CTH C in the Town of Merrill for a reported car crash with injuries. It was further reported that young children were in the car. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the driver of the car, a Merrill man, 37, The driver reported that he swerved to avoid a deer when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed. Also in the car were his wife and their two children, ages 7 years and the other a baby. The driver was found to be under the influence of intoxicants, and was placed through a series of SFSTs. As a result of those tests, he was placed under arrest for OWI with minor passengers. The crash is still under investigation and additional charges may be sent to the district attorney at a later time. Merrill Fire and Ambulance also responded to the scene and did transport the passenger to Aspirus Good Samaritan Hospital.
On 07-03-2022 deputies were dispatched to an address on River Bend Dr. in the Town of Merrill for a reported domestic dispute. It was reported that there was a physical altercation between a Merrill man, 44, and his wife, 39, also of Merrill. The two were arguing over fireworks, and during the argument, the man reportedly punched his wife in the back. As a result, the man was arrested for domestic battery and disorderly conduct. He was transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
During this week period, there were four reported car-deer crashes.
As reported Monday, July 11:
On 07-05-2022 a deputy was on a separate call for service at 2 a.m. when she observed a vehicle being operated with no lights to the rear and only running lights to the front. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on CTH S and Military Rd. in the City of Tomahawk. The deputy found the driver of the vehicle a, Rhinelander man, 19, to be impaired. The driver was put through a series of SFSTs, and as a result of those tests was arrested for a violation of absolute sobriety. He was later released to a responsible party.
07-5-2022 a deputy on routine patrol stopped a vehicle for a speeding violation on USH 51 and CTH K in the Town of Merrill. The driver, an Antigo man, 19, was cited for speeding by traveling 110 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.
On 07-7-2022 a deputy was called to the Lincoln County Jail for a criminal damage to property complaint. A Wausau man, 51, who was is an inmate in the Lincoln County Jail, became upset over a court case, lost his temper and damaged the intercom system in his cell block. A report will be sent over to the district attorney’s office with a request of criminal damage to property against the man.
On 07-7-2022 deputies were dispatched to the area of STH 64 and USH 51 for a two-car crash with injuries. A vehicle being operated by a Hortonville man, 45, exited USH 51 at STH 64 and pulled out in front of a vehicle that was being operated by a Merrill woman, 62, who was E/B on STH 64. The Merrill woman suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. The other driver will be cited for his violation at a later time.
On 07-07-2022 a deputy was dispatched to the area of STH 64 and CTH X in the Town of Pine River for a reported motorcycle vs. deer crash with injuries. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with the driver of the motorcycle an Antigo man, 37, who said he was W/B on STH 64 when he struck the deer. The driver was not wearing a helmet and suffered minor injuries but refused an ambulance. The driver was cited for no valid motorcycle license.
On 07-08-2022 deputies were dispatched to an address on CTH K in the Town of Merrill for a disturbance in progress. Two brothers, ages 28 and 19, both of Merrill, got into an argument over financial issues. During the argument, the older brother threw a protein shake shaker at the younger brother, striking him in the arm, causing a minor injury. As a result, he was arrested for domestic battery and disorderly conduct and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
On 07-09-2022 a deputy on routine patrol observed a UTV being operated in a reckless manner in the area of CTH H and Copper Lake Ave. in the Town of Birch. As a result, the deputy stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver a Gleason man, 45. The driver was found to be impaired and as a result placed through a series of SFSTs. As a result of those tests the driver was arrested for OWI with a UTV and fail to yield at a stop sign. The driver was later released to a responsible party.
During this week period, there were seven reported car deer crashes.
