Nicolet Nursing Instructor Krista Polomis earns advanced-level Certified Nurse Educator status

For the Tomahawk Leader

RHINELANDER – Nicolet College announced on Friday, June 10 that Nicolet Nursing Instructor Krista Polomis received the esteemed Certified Nurse Educator status, becoming the third Nicolet instructor to do so.

Nicolet said Polomis received the certification by meeting all of the educational and work experience requirements and passing the arduous national certification examination administered by the National League of Nursing.

“This is a wonderful accomplishment for Krista and serves as a strong testament to her commitment to providing the best nursing instruction possible,” said Candy Dailey, dean of Health Occupations at Nicolet College. “It’s also important to note that the ultimate beneficiaries are the students and all of the patients they will care for after they graduate and work in the many health care facilities across the Northwoods. It all starts with high quality skills training, which is something Krista is deeply committed to delivering.”

“This is the first time in the 32-year history of the Nursing program at Nicolet that three working faculty members on staff have earned Certified Nurse Educator status,” Nicolet stated. “The other two are Amy Gatton, who serves as associate dean of Health Occupations, and Nursing Instructor Jackie Tousignant.”

Nicolet noted that one widely accepted measure of the quality of Nursing instruction is the percentage of new college graduates who pass the national Registered Nurse exam.

“The national average pass rate is currently 85% to 86% for any given graduating class,” Nicolet said. “Nicolet Nursing graduates have historically performed above the national average, typically with 90% or more passing on their first attempt.”

There have also been several years where 100% of new Nursing graduates at Nicolet have passed the exam on their first attempt, Nicolet noted.
