Open gym for basketball

It’s been difficult to believe, but it has been 18 years since I retired from teaching junior high and coaching basketball in Marathon City.

When my wife, Carol, and I retired to live in my hometown of Tomahawk, Wis., I saw a need for “open gym for basketball” at our great fieldhouse, once a week for all ages of residents, as I had done in Marathon.

Thank you to all the past and present school administrations and custodians, you are to be highly commended for being so cooperative to work with!

Likewise, the Tomahawk Leader and the radio station, WJJQ, have been so supportive with your weekly promotions all these years. Thank you.

It has been so much fun to make new friends, both male and female, and see everyone exercising and getting along so well in “pick up” basketball games of all kinds.

This indoor season is completed but fellow promoter Jon Long and I look forward to starting up again in the fall.

We hope to see you there!

Bill Sparr
