Kids ages four through 12 invited to take part in Bike Rodeo
For the Tomahawk Leader
TOMAHAWK – Kids ages four through 12 are invited to take part in a bicycle safety event in Tomahawk next weekend.
The Bike Rodeo will be held in the parking lot of Tomahawk Community Bank, 15 E. Wisconsin Ave., Tomahawk, on Saturday, June 4 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. In the event of rain, the Bike Rodeo will take place on Sunday, June 5.
Organizers say the Bike Rodeo will teach kids the skills they need to be better bicyclists.
“By learning handling and traffic skills, one can enjoy bicycling more and reduce the chance of injury,” a poster for the event states.
Participants will work their way through a variety of stations dealing with important aspects of cycling, including how to safely exit a driveway, look for traffic, negotiate an intersection and avoid common road hazards.
Upon completion of the course, each participant will receive a certificate, goodie bag, and popcorn or cotton candy.
One boys bike and one girls bike will be raffled off at the event. Each participant will also receive a ticket for the raffle.
Free bike inspections and helmet checks will be provided. Refurbished bikes for those who need one or whose bike is deemed unsafe, as well as helmets for those who do not have one, will be available.
The Bike Rodeo is sponsored by the Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital Foundation, Century 21 Realty, Coaster Cycle Works, Domtar Paper, Gifts from Heaven Foundation, Kinship of Tomahawk, Taves Construction, Tomahawk Community Bank, Tomahawk Pharmacy, Trig’s of Tomahawk, WJJQ Radio and Woodland Lakes Realty.
