Golf: Hatchets compete in three meets ahead of Regional at Inshalla

EAGLE RIVER – The Tomahawk Hatchet golf team took part in three meets last week.

Eagle River

The Hatchets kicked off last week’s action in Eagle River on Monday, May 16.

Results: Lakeland 303, Medford 323, Antigo 338, Rhinelander 342, Mosinee 367, Northland Pines 372, Tomahawk 395.

Hatchet results: Sawyer Hanna 93, Owen Dickrell 97, Austin Lamer 97, Gavyn Palmer 108, Drew Albert 111.

Sawyer Hanna had the shot of the day with a chip in for birdie on the third hole.

“Sawyer had a 41 on his second nine of the day,” said coach Garth Gerstenberger. “Owen Dickrell showed some nice improvement as the day went on. He had a 44 on the second nine”

Bass Lake Golf Course

On Tuesday, May 17, the Hatchets traveled to Bass Lake Golf Course north of Antigo.

Results: Lakeland 302, Rhinelander 323, Antigo 337, Medford 339, Mosinee 361, Northland Pines 363, Tomahawk 406.

Hatchet results: Austin Lamer 99, Owen Dickrell 101, Sawyer Hanna 103, Gavyn Palmer 103, Drew Albert 105.

“We continue to get more and more consistent off the tee,” Gerstenberger stated. “We need to improve around the greens.”

Lakeland is the overall Great Northern Conference (GNC) champion this year. Tomahawk finished in 7th place.

Kayden Nomm of Lakeland was named the GNC the Player of the Year.

Rhinelander

The Hatchets competed in Rhinelander on Friday, May 20. The meet was shortened to nine holes after a two-hour rain delay.

Results: Shawano 173, Rhinelander 175, Tomahawk 199, Marathon 208, Northland Pines 222, Hurley – no score.

Hatchet results: Owen Dickrell 47, Austin Lamer 49, Sawyer Hanna 50, Gavyn Palmer 53, Drew Albert 56.

“As a team, we shot 24 strokes better than we did two weeks ago on the same nine,” Gerstenberger said. “We continue to improve on a daily basis.”

The Hatchets are scheduled to host a Regional meet at Inshalla Country Club on Tuesday, May 24.
