Tomahawk golfers show improvement in Rhinelander, Lakeland

RHINELANDER – The Tomahawk Hatchet varsity golf team took part in two meets earlier this month.

Rhinelander

The varsity Hatchets competed in Rhinelander on Tuesday, May 10, while a JV meet in Eagle River was cancelled due to rain and lightning.

Results: Lakeland 308, Medford 336, Rhinelander 341, Mosinee 346, Antigo 347, Northland Pines 373, Tomahawk 423.

Hatchet results: Owen Dickrell 95, Sawyer Hanna 104, Austin Lamer 110, Drew Albert 114, Gavyn Palmer 120.

“All of our golfers had 10 or 11 good holes today,” coach Garth Gerstenberger said. “Now we need to eliminate the blow up holes. Owen Dickrell and Austin Lamer each had a birdie on the day.”

Lakeland

After varsity and JV meets scheduled for Thursday, May 12 were called off due to inclement weather, the varsity Hatchets took part in a meet in Lakeland on Friday, May 13.

Results: Lakeland 295, Medford 329, Antigo 345, Mosinee 349, Rhinelander 351, Northland Pines 395, Tomahawk 400.

Hatchet results: Owen Dickrell 95, Austin Lamer 99, Sawyer Hanna 101, Drew Albert 105, Gavyn Palmer 116.

“We had one of our better showings of the year today,” Gerstenberger stated. “We continue to improve as the season goes on.”

The varsity Tomahawk golfers were scheduled to travel to Eagle River on Monday, May 16. The following day, the Hatchets were slated to head to Bass Lake Golf Course in Deerbrook. The Hatchets will take part in a meet in Rhinelander on Friday, May 20.
