Tomahawk’s Alicia Voermans shatters middle school pole vault record

MEDFORD – On Thursday, May 5, the Tomahawk Middle School track and field team competed against Medford, Mosinee and Antigo in Medford.

The Tomahawk girls took 2nd place behind Medford, while the Hatchet boys took 3rd, following Medford and Mosinee.

The Hatchets had 26 top-three finishes. Individual winners were Mason Riebe in the boys’ pole vault, Elliot O’Connor in the boys’ shot put, Elise Gibeault in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles and Beau Stromberg in the boys’ 400 meter dash.

The team winners were the girls’ 4×200 meter relay, 4×400 meter relay and 4×800 meter relay.

A school record was also shattered, with Alicia Voermans eclipsing the previous record of 7’6” held by Alex Graeber. Voermans pole vaulted 8’6” to win the girls’ pole vault event.
