Hatchet golfers face tough spring weather in pair of conference meets

MOSINEE – The Tomahawk Hatchet golf team faced tough spring weather in a pair of Great Northern Conference (GNC) meets in late April.

Mosinee

The Hatchets traveled to Indianhead Golf Course in Mosinee on Monday, April 25 and ultimately finished at the end of the pack.

Meet results: Lakeland 325, Medford 357, Rhinelander 370, Antigo 371, Mosinee 387, Northland Pines 412, Tomahawk 453.

Lakeland’s Caden Nomm was the meet medalist, shooting a 77.

Tomahawk’s top golfers were Owen Dickrell with 99 strokes and Sawyer Hanna with 104.

Head coach Garth Gerstenberger noted that the conditions were tough in Mosinee, with 15 MPH winds on 37-degree day.

Medford

On Thursday, April 28, Tomahawk traveled to Medford’s Black River Golf Course and again struggled in the difficult weather.

Meet results: Lakeland 316, Medford 334, Rhinelander 355, Mosinee 364, Antigo 376, Northland Pines 396, Tomahawk 462.

Meet medalists were Lakeland’s Jack Rubo and Kaeden Nomm, who each shot 78.

Top Hatchet golfers were Sawyer Hanna with 99 strokes and Owen Dickrell with 104.

“We have had a tough spring with the weather,” Gerstenberger stated. “Our lack of quality practice time has shown in our inconsistency. We are having too many blow up holes.”

The Hatchets are slated to host a conference meet at Inshalla Country Club on Tuesday, May 3. On Tuesday, May 10, Tomahawk will head to Northwood Golf Club in Rhinelander for a conference meet that kicks off at 3 p.m.
