Letters to the Editor: April 13, 2022

Letters to the Editor published in the April 13, 2022 issue of the Tomahawk Leader.

Not your enemy; quite the contrary

I am Jeannette Fehr, an Army, Combat Veteran who loves our Country dearly. I moved to Tomahawk in July 2019 from Chattanooga, Tenn., and fell in love with everything about it, well except the long, cold winters. I must say though, the snow is amazing and beautiful.

I’m writing because I want everyone to understand why me, my husband Mark, and Mike and Linda Schlinsog dedicated hours, before the election, flying signs in town. We did so to remind everyone to get out and vote, and also to support the candidates, that most closely represent our stand on issues, throughout Tomahawk and the surrounding area. The outcome of our elections affect our State and ultimately the Nation as a whole. Everything that happens in our Nation starts locally. Believe it or not, it starts in our schools!

Most responses we received, while flying signs, were positive, and we greatly appreciate that. But, there is that small percentage that were very disrespectful, and I don’t understand that. We are not your enemy. Quite the contrary. We love this town and desire the best for it and the people who live here. We respect differences in beliefs. We stand for freedom of expression and every other freedom The Constitution grants us. We went out, without being asked or paid, to remind everyone to remember to vote. If it angered you that we didn’t represent your candidates, we welcome you to join us next time with your signs. We hope that your anger drove you to the polls Tuesday. Shoot, we don’t even care how you voted, well, we do a little bit.

I don’t think some of you realize the treasure you have here in Tomahawk. This is an awesome town with remarkable people. I’ve yet to meet anyone I don’t like, some middle fingers maybe, but not the people. I am confident that if you knew us, apart from our political affiliation, you would like us, maybe even grow to love us. We are much like you, passionate about our beliefs, loyal to those we love and respect, and bacon…we all love bacon! So, I leave you with this thought; treat others as you want to be treated, as for me, my husband and the Schlinsogs, we will love you no matter how you treat us. That’s just how we roll.

Now pass the bacon. I love you, mean it!

Explain your vote to those you claim to represent

To Tom Tiffany,

As a constituent of yours I would like you to explain to me how you came to vote no to a resolution in the House of Representative supporting NATO.

I finding it deeply disturbing that when the world needs to unite against authoritarian aggression in Ukraine by reaffirming it’s commitment to each other, you decide to cast a no vote. I believe you are the only representative from Wisconsin to do so.

Would you vote to remove the U.S. from NATO if given the chance? Do you agree that Russia invading a sovereign nation is a threat to the world, including the U.S.? Are you familiar with the history of NATO and the benefit it provides it’s members? Do you recall 9/11 when our fellow NATO members had our back as the Twin Towers were in ruins? Please explain to me your thought process.

I for one think you need to explain your vote to those you claim to represent. And I hope that anyone who reads this demands the same answers. I can’t help but think you have forgotten you are supposed to represent the people of your district and I highly doubt this is the vote a majority of those people would have cast.

Perhaps you need to talk with more of your constituents, the average folks that pay your salary instead of whoever it is you consult.

Disappointedly yours,

Nick Rosenmeier
