Tomahawk Middle School student self-publishes first book

TOMAHAWK – The main goal for an author is for the public to be able to enjoy their work, but getting a book published is no easy feat. For one Tomahawk 8th grader, this has already become a reality.

Greta Kurth has recently self-published her first book. Divided is the first in the three-book series that she’s working on.

Greta’s inspiration for Divided came from a dream she had. She said she dreamed the first scene of the book and it took off from there.

She describes the book as “a tale of adventure, relationships, and society struggling to survive in a dystopian community.”

Greta recommends Divided for early teens because some of the content might be too mature for younger children. She hopes that young people will learn the value of friendship from her books, as this seems to be a common theme.

This isn’t the first book that Greta has written – she’s been writing since she was in first grade – but it’s the first book she’s wanted to publish because she feels that her writing has matured. She even does her own editing because the expense of hiring a professional would have been too great.

Being a full-time student, and being involved in other after school activities, Greta says it can be hard to find enough time to write. She says she does most of her writing in the evenings, but sometimes has some free time at school. Her parents have always been supportive by encouraging her in her writing.

As for the future, Greta plans on going to college someday and continuing her writing career. She’s also hoping, in the nearer future, to be able to buy her own computer. An anonymous donor has already given her about half the cost of a new computer, but she’s counting on book sales to help fund the rest.

Currently, Divided is only being sold through the family. If interested in ordering a book, you can reach out to her mother Heather Rousseau Kurth through Facebook or call 262-442-9415.
