For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet eSports team recently returned to action for its spring season.

Coach Paula Norman said two teams are competing.

The Varsity SMITE team is comprised of all seniors – Dylan, Zack, Wyatt, Gavin, Jacob and Tim – while the Rocket League team is competing at the JV level. Rocket League team members are Sam, Elias, Elliott and Ryan.

“The SMITE team’s goal is to make it to State this year, which is being held at NTC in Wausau,” Norman stated. “They have been practicing a lot in the offseason and show up three nights a week to practice.”

Norman added that the Rocket League team is learning how to communicate and develop their teamwork, as they are new to the sport.

Late last month, the SMITE team took on Walden III and defeated them in 20 minutes, improving their record to 3-1 to be tied for first place in the conference.

“Should there be a tie for rankings, the placement goes to the team with the quickest game completion rate,” Norman explained.

Norman said the Rocket League is 0-2 on the season, but is showing steady improvement.
