Liftathon: Hatchet Weightlifting Club raises funds for equipment, Kinship of Tomahawk

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet Weightlifting Club recently held a Liftathon fundraiser.

Coach Andy Peissig explained that in the Liftathon, students get sponsors per pound of weight that they lift in squat, bench, and hang clean, and then max out on those three lifts.

“After they max out, they go to their sponsors and report out their new maxes,” Peissig said.

For example, if a student athlete has a sponsor at $0.10 per pound and the student athlete lifts 900 pounds in squat, bench, and hang clean, the sponsor would donate $90.00 to the Hatchet Weightlifting Club.

Peissig said the club raised over $1,500.00 this year. The funds will be used to improve the weight room by purchasing new racks, foam rollers and other equipment.

Peissig noted that the club also wanted to help other kids in the community, so 10% of the Liftathon proceeds went to Kinship of Tomahawk.
