Boys’ basketball season comes to end with Regional loss

For the Tomahawk Leader

APPLETON – The Tomahawk Hatchet boys’ basketball team faced the Xavier Hawks in a Regional matchup in Appleton on Tuesday, March 1 and was ultimately defeated, bringing an end to the Hatchets’ season.

The game started off well with the Hatchets and Hawks maintaining a fairly even score early. The Hawks got their post game going with a large size advantage that was too much for the Hatchets to overcome. The Hatchets played well on offense, but couldn’t get anything to fall, shooting 28% for the game. Xavier shot the ball at 53%, and that propelled them to a 78 to 27 victory.

The Hatchets were led by Ethan Breitenfeld with nine points, and Gavyn Palmer had eight.

“I want to shout out Tyler Welke, Mason Schreiner, Logan Scheiner, Aiden Schreiner and Garrett Nelson on a great career for Tomahawk basketball,” head coach Jacob Jarvensivu said after the game. “Those seniors were always so fun to have at practices and games and they will be missed. Xavier is a really good team, and when they are on fire from three they will surely be tough to beat. Thank you to the Hatchet faithful that showed up to games to support us this season.”
