Hatchet hoopsters end January with win over White Lake, loss to Mosinee

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet boys’ basketball team took on White Lake and Mosinee at the end of January.

White Lake

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, the Hatchets hosted White Lake. The Hatchets started the game with a lead, and at halftime the score was 51-11. The Hatchets maintained their lead throughout the whole game, eventually ending in a 64-22 victory, the team’s third win of the season.

Tomahawk played well on offense, with Jackson Werner tallying five offensive rebounds. The Hatchets were led by Gavyn Palmer with 15 points and Tyler Welke with 12.

“This was a really good game to get everybody in and get our feet back underneath us on the offensive end of the floor,” said head coach Jacob Jarvensivu. “We played really well offensively and got almost everyone involved. I thought our defense was also really good in holding White Lake down. This was a really fun game for the kids to play in and a fun game for me to coach.”

Mosinee

Tomahawk played the Mosinee Indians in a road matchup on Friday, Jan. 28. The game started off well for Mosinee with a halftime score of 58-16. Tomahawk played well on defense throughout the whole game, especially Tyler Jablonsky, who grabbed five defensive rebounds. Despite how well the Hatchets played, they weren’t able to catch up Mosinee’s lead in the second half, resulting in a loss 97-29.

Tyler Welke and Gavyn Palmer led the Hatchets with 10 and 8 points, respectively.

After the game, Jarvensivu noted that Mosinee is “a really good basketball team and they showed it tonight.”

“They are very athletic and it was hard for us to handle. I thought the boys fought despite being overmatched.”
