Hockey: Hatchets fall to Antigo, Pacelli, Marshfield

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet hockey team lost three games last week.

Antigo

The Hatchets traveled to Antigo on Tuesday, Jan. 25 and were defeated by a score of 4-1.

Head coach Chris Bembinster said Tomahawk played great in the first and third periods.

“We had a small hiccup in the second and it ended up costing us this game,” Bembinster stated. “They (were) playing at a much better pace and level of play. We just need more experience together as a team to continue to grow and understand each other on the ice.”

Pacelli

Pacelli was in town on Friday, Jan. 28, and was able to leave Tomahawk with a 5-3 win over the Hatchets.

“We thought the kids played a great game,” Bembinster said after the game. “Just a few small things hurt us right at the end of this one. Focus and playing through anything we are faced with are going to be big things to work on going into playoffs. Always nice to come away with a win, but great lessons will come from this game.”

Marshfield

Tomahawk faced Marshfield in a road matchup on Saturday, Jan. 29, and the Hatchets were ultimately defeated 12-3.

Bembinster said the game got off to a bumpy start.

“I will take the bulk of this one, as there were a few factors I should have considered more,” he stated. “We did find a way to play more competitively as the game went on. Again in the week coming up, these last two games will be discussed and studied to get better. We are coming close to when one game can end our season. We have to find the combination for the team’s success, and we will.”

The Hatchets will head to Mosinee on Tuesday, Feb. 1. On Friday, Feb. 4, Tomahawk will travel to Ashland. Both games get underway at 7 p.m.
