Joyce Eleanor (Anderson) Procknow, age 91, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully, with a smile on her face, on Jan. 11, 2022. Joyce was cared for by her surviving children, grandchildren, and the wonderful staff at Compassus Hospice and Home Health; along with Sammie, her personal caregiver, friend, and treat-getter, among the many other “hats” that she wore. Joyce was born in Madison, Wis., to the late Adolph and Amelia (Johnson) Bangs. She married Arlan Orville Anderson in 1951, after which they raised their four children together. Arlan preceded her in death in April 1979, along with two of her daughters, Sharon Rae Westra (Duan) in March of 2008, and Laurel Jean Daigle (Jack) in January of 2008. Joyce’s second husband, Joseph Procknow, also preceded her in death in November of 2006.
Joyce grew up her daddy’s little “tomboy” and loved to deer hunt and shoot rats with her Luger at the dump with him. She was also a “Flag Day baby” and very proud of Our Flag and country. She was also a strong supporter of the American Legion. There are so many things that Joyce “loved” to do but we would say that her greatest love and commitment was to her family. She was a strong advocate for them all and God help you should you mess with any of them. She followed them to their sporting events and cheered the loudest, kept abreast of all achievements and momentous life events, worried about them in sickness and health, and most of all, fed them whether they were hungry or not. Bottom line, you were going to eat while in her home and in her presence. Her cards, letters, and stories told, always made us laugh and go “oh grandma” upon which she would crack up laughing. Best part is that she also could laugh at herself. Her greatest joy was when she could shock us all and make us blush. Her presence is so greatly missed but we will continue to tell her stories and reminisce about the moments that made us wonder “What the hell???” and laugh so hard we cried. We love you so much mom, Grandma Joyce! We will miss you dearly.
Survivors include Joyce’s son, Gary (fiancé Connie) Anderson, of Tomahawk; her daughter, Karin (Dan) Lemke, of Statham, Ga.; Joyce’s grandchildren, Bill (Kristie) Anderson, Michelle (Ryan) Gerard, Jaime (Clint) Neff, Christi (Jeff) Alvord, Tanya Daigle, Dustin Daigle, Meghan (Jory) Puyear, and Cody (Lisa) Lemke. She is further survived by 10 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way), and one great-great grandson, along with many extended family members, and Joseph Procknow’s daughter, Linda Olson, and grandson, Christopher.
A celebration of life gathering will be held for Joyce early this summer. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory, Tomahawk, is assisting the family. You may view Joyce’s obituary and leave online condolences at www.generationsfuneral.com.
