TOMAHAWK – The third annual Badger State Winter Games Snowmobile Torch Tour Ride made a stop in Tomahawk on Thursday, Jan. 13.

The Torch Tour is part of a collaboration between the Badger State Winter Games and the World Championship Snowmobile Derby, which is held each year in Eagle River.

The tour left Wausau on Thursday, Jan. 13, headed to the World Championship Snowmobile Derby. On its way north, the tour stopped in Merrill before visiting Tomahawk Sports Center, where State Senator Mary Felzkowsi (R-Tomahawk), representatives from local snowmobile clubs, Wisconsin Snowmobile Queen AJ Kreager and other dignitaries were on hand for a meet -and-greet and lunch.

The Badger State Winter Games Torch continued to make its way north on Friday, Jan. 14, stopping in Hazelhurst, Minocqua, Lake Tomahawk, Sayner, St. Germain, Sugar Camp and Three Lakes before being lit at the Winter Games Caldron, located in the center of the World Championship Derby Track in Eagle River. The torch lighting signaled the 59th annual Opening Ceremony of the World Championship Snowmobile Derby.

The Badger State Games worked with more than 15 snowmobile clubs, as well as various chambers of commerce, visitors bureaus and businesses throughout central and northern Wisconsin to make the tour possible.
