Seven people escape house fire in Town of Skanawan

TOWN OF SKANAWAN – Seven people escaped a house fire in the Town of Skanawan in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Dec. 22, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 12:37 a.m., the Tomahawk Fire Department, Tomahawk EMS and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a house fire on Stevenson Rd., west of Grundy Rd., in the Town of Skanawan.

Upon arrival, the rear of the house was fully engulfed in flames.

The residence’s seven occupants were able to evacuate, and no injuries were reported.

The Sheriff’s Office said that, per an on-scene investigation, it was reported that the fire started in the attic.

“One of the occupants woke up to the noise of cracking and the smell of smoke,” the release stated. “That occupant woke the other six occupants and evacuated the house and called 911.”

Assisting agencies included the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Tomahawk Fire Department, Tomahawk EMS, Town of Russell Fire Department, Town of Nokomis Fire Department, Wisconsin Public Service and American Red Cross.
