TOWN OF PINE RIVER – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday, Dec. 15 identified the man who was shot and killed by law enforcement in Lincoln County last week.

According to a release from DOJ, on Friday, Dec. 10, at approximately 6:33 a.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call for a subject with a knife in a residence on Shady Lane Ave. in the Town of Pine River. Upon entering the residence, law enforcement encountered John Z.A. Moua, 28, armed with a knife, DOJ said.

Upon entering the residence, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Tyler Iverson “discharged his firearm, striking Moua.”

“Law enforcement administered lifesaving efforts, as did EMS upon arrival, but Moua succumbed to his injuries on scene,” DOJ stated.

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office personnel who were involved in the incident have been placed on administrative assignment, per department policy, according to DOJ.

DOJ said Iverson has 17 years of law enforcement experience.

DCI is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, Merrill Police Department, Wausau Police Department, and the DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services.

“All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation,” DOJ stated. “DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Lincoln County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.”
