DOJ investigating after ‘armed subject’ shot, killed by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office personnel

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an “officer involved death” that occurred in Lincoln County on Friday, Dec. 10, a release from DOJ said.

According to the release, at approximately 6:33 a.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call for a subject with a knife in a residence on Shady Lane Ave. in the Town of Pine River. Upon entering the residence, law enforcement “encountered the armed subject and discharged their firearm, striking the subject.”

“Law enforcement administered lifesaving efforts, as did EMS upon arrival, but the subject succumbed to their injuries on scene,” DOJ stated.

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.

The name of the deceased was not released.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office personnel who were involved in the incident have been placed on administrative assignment, per department policy, according to the release.

DCI is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, Merrill Police Department, Wausau Police Department, and the DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services.

“All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation,” DOJ stated.
