Harshaw man killed in car crash in Portage County construction zone

PORTAGE COUNTY – A Harshaw man was killed in a car crash that took place in a construction zone in Portage County near Amherst, a release from the Wisconsin State Patrol said.

According to the release, on Thursday, Dec. 2, at approximately 1:19 p.m., a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling eastbound on U.S. Hwy. 10 near the intersection of County Hwy. Q, approaching a construction zone with a single-lane rolling closure. The vehicle entered the construction zone and struck a road construction truck and trailer performing highway maintenance.

The driver of the Chevrolet Traverse, identified by the Wisconsin State Patrol as Jeffrey Mason Warmuth, 30, of Harshaw, died at the scene.

The driver of the construction truck, identified as Max D. McPherson, 26, of Stevens Point, was not injured.

The crash is being investigated by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Assisting agencies included the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Portage County Highway Department, Portage County Medical Examiner, Amherst Fire Department, Amherst EMS, Amherst Rescue, and Adam’s Towing.
