Oneida County 4-H honors efforts of youth, adults at Welcome and Recognition event
For the Tomahawk Leader
ONEIDA COUNTY – Oneida County 4-H and the University of Wisconsin-Extension Oneida County honored the efforts of youth and adults during Oneida County 4-H’s Welcome and Recognition event held on Sunday, Nov. 7, at Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander.
Casey Rustan of Rhinelander was awarded Oneida County 4-H Volunteer of the Year.
“Rustan has been a certified 4-H volunteer for five years, serving as a leader of photography and also wildlife ecology/furbearer trapping 4-H education programs,” a release from Oneida County 4-H said. “She has participated regularly in Oneida County 4-H Leaders’ Association meetings and volunteered annually at the Oneida County Fair. Rustan received a 4-H recognition plaque during the awards banquet.”
“All of us put a lot of effort and time to make 4-H fun and successful, and I believe it shows through the youth and how they support our community,” Rustan stated. “We wouldn’t be successful if we didn’t have volunteers to lead events and projects. All adults should consider helping young people learn a life skill.”
“Even as a pandemic caused life disruptions for many people, Casey continued to give of her time,” said Anne Williams, Oneida County 4-H Educator. “She embodies the true spirit of 4 H: generous, hard-working, dedicated, and inspirational.”
4-H youth were recognized during the event. Makayla Wachal and Quinn Williams, both of Rhinelander, received 4-H youth ambassador awards for exhibiting at the Oneida County Fair. Noelle Mayo of Rhinelander received a certificate for helping educate youth and families about pet ownership during the Tales and Tails event at the Rhinelander District Library, while Logan Wachal and Elise Williams, both of Rhinelander, received certificates for participating in hands-on 4-H gardening programs, Science Night, and craft workshops.
4-H adults Lynn Feldman, Mary Puestow, Amy Engel, and Casey Mayo were also recognized during the event for their volunteer efforts with Oneida County 4-H.
Numerous other youth and adults were recognized for their participation in various 4-H activities and events throughout the past year, but were unable to attend the Recognition Event.
