Hatchet eSports club earns numerous victories as season rolls on

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet eSports club came away with multiple wins earlier this month as its second season continues.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team Zach Suchomel, Tim Herman, Gavin Myre, and Elliot O’Connor kicked off Week 2 of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 2 with a victory over New Holstein.

The Hatchets’ streak continued the following evening, as the Varsity Overwatch team of Jack McGovern, Jacob Anderson, Gavin Myre, Dylan Guilluame, Mathew Walbeck and Richard Burke swept all four maps against NEW Innovations High School.

“This win definitely gave them the confidence they needed and showed their practice is paying off,” said coach Paula Norman.

Week 3 began with a lot of action. On Tuesday, Nov. 9, the JV Overwatch team of Elias A., Kenny, Brian, Xander, Trey, and Nathanael took on Wautoma in a make-up game from the previous week, and the Hatchets claimed their first win of the season. Norman said the communication among the team members led to their success in capturing all four maps.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the library, the varsity SMASH Bros. team took on Two Rivers, and despite a well-played match, the Hatchets succumbed to their tough opponents and fell by a score of 0-5.

The varsity Overwatch team faced Williams Bay High School on Wednesday, Nov. 10 and cruised to an easy victory, securing four maps to Williams Bay’s zero.

Thursday, Nov. 11’s matchup between the JV Overwatch squad against McFarland had been cancelled. Norman said the team is looking to reschedule the match for this week.
