LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Health Department (LCHD) on Monday, Nov. 8 announced that it is planning to begin offering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5 to 11 in mid-December.

“This is important, as LCHD understands what is needed to ensure that families have an additional resource to get their COVID-19 protection for their families, as well as to support our local health care providers,” LCHD stated in a release.

Jennifer Johnson, LCHD Public Health Nurse, said that it is important for parents who are considering getting their children vaccinated receive correct information and ask any questions they may have before the scheduled appointment.

“There is a lot of emotion in regards to vaccination, and going to sources that have done the work to understand how the vaccine works with children ages 5 to 11 is vital,” Johnson stated.

LCHD recommended that parents who are thinking about getting their children vaccinated against COVID-19 review information from professional organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (www.bit.ly/3bWJWuj), HealthyChildren.org (www.bit.ly/3F4fevW), and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (www.bit.ly/30a3fxu).

LCHD noted that a lot of time and effort goes into the planning and training processes for new vaccination recommendations.

“Our pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, along with public health, have all been working diligently throughout this pandemic and doing their best to help Lincoln County residents get through this difficult time,” LCHD stated.
