Laurie J. Ament

Laurie J. Ament, age 62, of Tomahawk, passed away on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, under the care of her family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. Laurie was born in Rhinelander, Wis., on March 25, 1959, to Ronald and the late Diane (Lassig) Schreiber. She was married to the love of her life, Michael Ament, on September 8, 1979; he survives.

Laurie was a 1977 graduate of Merrill High School. It was there that she met her husband of 42 wonderful years. In 1980, Laurie and Mike purchased their home, which would later accommodate her passion for horses. She was an animal lover who owned several horses, whom she took care of and loved riding. Laurie loved her cats, Cowboy and Scamp, and her dogs, Bleu and Scout. She was a talented cook, loved flowers and plants, and had a beautiful talent for making live floral arrangements. Laurie enjoyed the outdoors and loved traveling, camping and hiking, and was captivated by a good thunderstorm. One thing she enjoyed very much was walking the sandy beaches in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. She was a very outgoing and friendly person. In more recent years, she enjoyed playing Native American flutes. She also spent much time sharing her Bible-based faith of a better and peaceful world in where sickness, pain, and death would be no more. (Rev. 21:1-5), (2 Peter 3:13).

Survivors include her husband, Michael Ament, of Tomahawk; her father and stepmother, Ronald and Marlee Schreiber, of Merrill; her brother, Michael (Theresa) Schreiber, of Merrill; her stepbrothers, Kerry Nimz, of Madison, Wis., Jeff (Jamie) Nimz, of Redondo Beach, Calif., Steve Schreiber, of Wyoming, and Tim (Janet) Schreiber, of Merrill; and her in-laws, Christine Ament, Teresa Ament, John (Vicki) Ament, Dr. Patrick Ament, Debra (Greg) Franda, Lisa Ament, and Timothy (Tammy) Ament. Laurie is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Diane; her grandparents, Erwin and Margaret Lassig and Victor and Ruth Schreiber; her aunt, Shirley Wagler; and her uncle, Larry Schreiber.
